Shiatsu Bodywork

David practices Zen shiatsu as a healing bodywork modality:

Zen Shiatsu combines acupressure massage techniques and gentle stretches to work in a deeply relaxing and holistic way.

Shiatsu is a Japanese Zen Healing Art focused on the meridian systems of the body.   It takes place on a traditional style futon or massage table and the recipient is fully clothed.

David has a Diploma in Zen Shiatsu.  He is an accredited teacher and member of the Shiatsu Practitioners Association of Aotearoa New Zealand.

David specialises in:

  • Working in a holistic way with the effects of trauma & stress on the body and mind.
  • An approach that is gentle, respectful and empowering.
  • Tailoring bodywork sessions to the needs of the individual.
  • Home visits by arrangement.

The Benefits of Zen Shiatsu:

Shiatsu is more than a massage technique.  It can improve the Ki (chi, life-force, energy) flowing through the meridians to improve our general health and well being.

  • Shiatsu has a reputation for relieving pain or muscular tension.
  • Great for back and neck pain.
  • Regular treatments can enhance overall physical vitality and emotional well being.
  • Shiatsu is deeply relaxing and can help to reduce and prevent the build up of stress.
  • Can enhance both mental and physical health and wellbeing.

The Foundations of Zen Shiatsu:

Shiatsu is based on the time-honoured Oriental medical understanding that our physiological and psychological structures are supported and affected by meridians.  Meridians are channels of living magnetic energy that flow throughout the body.

David also teaches Japanese Yoga:

A gentle stretching method based on the five element energy model.  This is a great way to take the benefits of Zen Shiatsu home to develop a daily mindful bodywork practice.

“I find the five element energy model of Zen Shiatsu to be a wholistic life-guiding modality that I incorporate into my own life, my healing work and teaching”.
